That is how it is in Wise Co...heat schedule for 2 weeks..then normal.
Many have said the existing high schools are fine (fix a few windows and some other small fixy things and call it a day). Some have said A/C wasn't even necessary (some on this board have said as much). And then I read this from the recent school board meeting:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">The school system is on a heat schedule until the end of August due to the high temperatures in the high school classrooms. Under the heat schedule, school begins at 8 a.m. and dismisses at 1:30 p.m.
In a related matter, the School Board, after a lengthy discussion, voted to cancel school on Thursday since weather forecasts predict scorching temperatures. It is also possible school will be cancelled Friday if the heat continues.
The decision to close school Thursday came after several steamed parents and residents told the board that the heat is unbearable for high school students who sit in rooms where temperatures reach well into the 90s for hours.
"Would you keep your pets indoors in conditions like that?"? parent Billie Brown asked. "If you did, you'd probably be arrested."?</div></div>
You'll shoot your eye out.

...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
I understand that we're on heat schedule (a scheduling type that was only in the past few years put into place regularly).
My point is folks gripe and growl and say the schools dont need a/c everything is fine just fix a few basics, but when it comes to hot August days they storm the school board demanding closure over the heat.
Can't have it both ways.

let it go elp6n...who cares if the school gets up to 100 degrees during august. thats a sacrifice we have to make to prevent consolidation. when are you gonna realize the ONLY thing that matters is high school football.
its the circle of life.
you go to highschool play 4 glorious years. you get your high school sweet heart pregnant at prom. and repeat the process.

The first year I can remember them doing that was 1988...during the heat wave that year. But, if it wasn't for legal implications...and a sue happy public, there wouldn't be a heat schedule.

Football is life. But only if it's in individual town schools of course.

exactly...who cares about a school offering better classes to prepare these kids for college (college is overrated). who cares if health wise it is safer at a new school. who cares if junior is sitting in a class w/ 3 other kids and a teacher. get your priorities straight.
small time high school football is the only thing that matters in life. I'm pretty sure Heaven will be alot like a cool autumn night here in the lpd. it will be 4th and goal on the two. Jesus will take the snap and head it off to me. we will celebrate in the endzone.

Are you saying Jesus Christ couldn't push the ball in from the two? You mean he would need your help!!!!
"Call me crazy, but I want to buy the Dallas Cowboys end zone and have the star right at the foot of my bed. That way when I score, I can spike the ball right on the star!" -Woody Paige, Around the Horn 10.9.08
They don't let Jesus carry the ball, it would be no fun, nobody would want to hit him
